On-line OCT identifies non-ophthalmologically visible lesions in subthreshold laser irradiation.
Dr Daniele Veritti et al., Department of Ophthalmology, University of Udine, Udine, Italy, used an integrated platform constructed of a slit-lamp, digital camera, a slit-lamp mounted OCT and a 532-nm laser photocoagulator. This was used to obtain real-time tomographic images of the irradiated area in artificial samples or pig irises.
On-line OCT was able to detect changes in the reflectivity profile of the artificial sample at a power of 200 mW during laser irradiation. In the pig iris online OCT could detect changes in the iris optical properties in absence of a visible endpoint.
